Cryptomeria japonica 'Sekkans Sugi'
Japanese Cushion Cryptomeria
Description
In cultivation, the 'Sekkan' is a slow-growing, irregularly shaped shrub to small tree. Its new foliage is a sulfur yellow color, which matures to green. Of the species, it is somewhat more susceptible to sunscald. This is a valuable choice for North and East exposures where an evergreen shrub is desired. It combines well with acid-loving, broadleaf evergreens, such as Rhododendron, in addition to Maples and other deciduous trees or flowering plants.
